Louisville basketball learned over the weekend that the Cardinals were not included in one of the top recruits' final 10. The Cards have been making a strong push in the 2027 recruiting class all summer, with Kelsey actively in contact with some of the top recruits in the nation.
Louisville was one of the early teams to extend an offer to the 5-star point guard Nasir Anderson, but on Saturday, the Cardinals learned they were not included in the elite point guards' final 10. Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Providence, Syracuse, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia all moved on to the next round. While Louisville did recruit him early on, it's no shock that the Cardinals aren’t one of the finalists.
Louisville basketball is all-in on Reese Alston
The Cardinals have been making a strong push for multiple recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, including another 5-star point guard. Kelsey has made it clear that 5-star Reese Alston is one of his top priorities in the 2027 recruiting class, which helps explain why recruiting for Anderson died down over the summer.
Louisville fans have seen Kelsey all over the country this offseason to watch Alston in recruiting camps. And with Kelsey’s No. 1 point guard clearly Alston, it appears he likely took a step back on recruiting Anderson, which may be why the Cardinals didn’t advance.
Anderson ranks as high as a 5-star point guard, No. 7 overall, and No. 2 among point guards, according to On3 Sports, while Alston ranks as high as No. 7 overall and No. 2 among point guards, according to Rivals. So, these two point guards are very close in rankings, and at some point you have to start leaning one way more than the other, and Kelsey went with Alston.
Alston has earned 36 offers, including from big-time programs like Purdue, Florida State, Houston, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, USC, and others. However, the four teams Louisville is battling for Alston at the moment is Kentucky, Wichita State, LSU, and Tennessee.
The Cardinals have already landed an unofficial visit from Alston, and On3 Sports Jamie Shaw continues to make an early prediction of the Cardinals landing the 5-star point guard. Right now, Louisville has “warm” next to its name, according to 247 Sports, which is another reason that proves Alston is Kelsey’s clear No. 1 point guard target.
The 5-star point guard is coming off a dominant year, making the MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team after averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. Now, as Anderson cuts Louisville, it is clear Kelsey and the Cardinals are all in on Alston.
