Louisville football was trending toward an eye-popping 2027 recruiting class, with multiple 4-star commitments as of early 2026. Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow were dominating the early stages of the 2027 recruiting cycle and were turning heads nationwide, but all of a sudden, things have changed for the worse.
The Cardinals lost multiple commitments in the 2027 cycle, including the most recent one, Chuck Alexander Jr. The 4-star wide receiver was committed to Louisville since November, but after an under-the-radar official visit to Iowa State, the Cardinals' elite 4-star decommitted from Louisville and flipped his commitment to the Cyclones.
Now, with Louisville suffering this huge blow to their 2027 recruiting class, the Cardinals' team ranking in the cycle plummeted.
Louisville football's red-hot 2027 recruiting class has completely cooled off
Earlier this year, the Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation. Louisville had a handful of 4-star commitments, including Alexander, and the Cardinals were one of the biggest surprises in the nation. Louisville remained in the top 10 for a long time, but once the summer arrived, the Cardinals began to fall in these teams' rankings.
Alexander decomitting from Louisville was a massive blow to the Cardinals in these rankings. Louisville dropped another 10 spots in the 247Sports rankings, putting Brohm and Louisville at No. 48 in the country. Louisville has dropped significantly in the past few weeks, as the Cardinals were looking to make history and earn the best class in program history, and now they are on the verge of falling outside the top 50.
Only two classes in program history ranked inside the top 25 following signing day, and leading up to June, Louisville looked like it was on track. However, the Cardinals suffered multiple massive blows over the past couple of months. Louisville suffered its biggest loss in June when the Cardinals' No. 1 recruit, Allen Evans, flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt, dropping Louisville from No. 27 to No. 38 in the nation.
Now that Alexander has left, the Cards dropped another 10 spots. Evans ranks as high as No. 76 in the nation and No. 9 among cornerbacks, while Alexander ranks No. 273 among 2027 recruits, No. 40 among wide receivers, and No. 17 among recruits from Ohio.
Louisville also lost 4-star quarterback commit, Jack Sorgi, who flipped his commitment to his father's alma mater, Wisconsin. The two other commitments Louisville lost were 3-star Brooklyn Maxey, who flipped his commitment to Kansas State and 3-star Kaleb Exume, who flipped his commitment to Boston College.
Louisville’s 2027 recruiting class has taken a drastic turn, and not for the better. These past two flips have been massive losses, and now Brohm and Marrow will look to bounce back and try to climb back in the top 30-40 range.
