Well, Cardinals nation, while Louisville football is coming off a crushing loss, Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball will try to cheer us all up a little this evening. Louisville basketball has been making a major push in the 2027 recruiting class, including some of the nation’s top prospects.
Pat Kelsey just got a huge update on one of Louisville’s top 5-star targets King Gibson
The Cardinals recently learned earlier this week that they are one of the final four for 5-star guard King Gibson, and just yesterday they learned they are hours away from Gibson’s commitment announcement.
Louisville is all-in on King Gibson
The elite guard is a 5-star recruit and one of the nation's top-ranked combo guards. On Saturday, it was officially reported that the top-15 overall recruit will make his announcement today, Sunday, October 4, at 9 p.m. local time, meaning Louisville will learn whether they land their first 5-star in the 2027 recruiting class.

Gibson earned over 35 offers during his recruiting process, including from top programs that didn’t make his final 10, such as Kentucky, North Carolina, Houston, and Indiana. Kelsey put Louisville in a position to land the 5-star, as the Cardinals made the 5-star final 10, putting them in a battle with UConn, Arkansas, LSU, Baylor, Syracuse, Providence, Illinois, Alabama, and Michigan.
However, just a few days ago, it was reported that Gibson is now focusing on just four programs, putting the Cardinals in a huge recruiting battle with Providence, Arkansas, and LSU.
With Kelsey and Louisville eyeing a dominant recruiting class, Gibson could be that crucial first domino to fall their way. The Cardinals already have one commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, 4-star forward Ferlandes Wright, but if Kelsey can land a top-15 recruit, Louisville will get more attention from 5-stars.
The guard from North Carolina ranks No. 13 overall, No. 2 among combo guards, and No. 2 among North Carolina recruits, according to ESPN. Gibson took an official visit to Louisville in September, then visited UConn, Arkansas, and LSU.
Gibson averaged 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in his junior season, and followed that up by averaging 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc for Team United in the Nike EYBL Circuit.
It is an exciting time for Louisville fans as Kelsey has the Cardinals in prime position for multiple 5-stars. With Louisville making a push for CJ Rosser, DeMarcus Henry, and others, Gibson has a chance to be a crucial first 5-star commitment for Louisville’s 2027 class.
