Louisville and Pat Kelsey just got a major update on one of the nation's top recruits. Kelsey and Louisville have been making a strong push for multiple recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, including large number of 5-stars.

When looking at the 2027 cycle, a few names stand out to the Cardinals. Louisville is in conversations with multiple top-15 overall recruits, including No. 1 overall recruit CJ Rosser, No. 3 recruit Cayden Daughtry, and No. 15 King Gibson.
Kelsey has Louisville trending with all three recruits, but one that is beginning to stand out is the 5-star guard from North Carolina.
Louisville gets a big-time update from No. 2 CG King Gibson
Earlier this year, Gibson cut his list down to just 10 schools after earning over 35 offers, including from notable programs that didn’t make his final 10, such as Kentucky, North Carolina, Houston, and Indiana. Louisville was one of the 10 teams on the updated 5-star list, along with UConn, Arkansas, LSU, Baylor, Syracuse, Providence, Illinois, Alabama, and Michigan.
However, that list was just cut to four, and Louisville fans will be happy to hear they made the next group. 247Sports Dushawn London reported yesterday that Gibson will be “focused on four schools,” implying there is no official update that he is just down to these four schools, but it certainly is a great update for the Cardinals.

Louisville is now in a heated recruiting battle with Arkansas, Providence, and LSU for the 5-star guard. Gibson is one of the top-ranked guards in the 2027 class, ranking as high as No. 13 overall, No. 2 among combo guards, and No. 2 among recruits from North Carolina.
The 5-star guard recently visited Louisville earlier this month, as Gibson took an official visit to Kelsey and Louisville on September 4th. In addition to his visit to Louisville, he also visited UConn (Sept. 13-15), Arkansas (Sept. 21-23), and LSU (Sept. 25-27).
The Cardinals are making a major push for multiple 5-star guards, and it appears they are trending closer to Gibson. The 5-star combo guard had an eye-popping junior season, averaging 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard then played for Team United in the Nike EYBL Circuit, averaging 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Louisville is trending in the right direction with Gibson, but there is still a lot of time left. Kelsey has the Cardinals inching closer to their second commitment in the 2027 class, but now he has to find a way to beat out Arkansas, LSU, and Providence.
