Louisville basketball fans are keeping a close eye on multiple prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, as Pat Kelsey looks to add his third 5-star in three years. The Cardinals head coach elevated Louisville’s recruiting immediatley upon arrival, landing 5-star Mikel Brown Jr. in 2025 and 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. in 2026.

Now, he is trying to secure his third 5-star commitment, and there are multiple names Cardinals fans should be watching. Louisville has made multiple updated recruit lists, including the top three recruits: CJ Rosser, DeMarcus Henry, and Cayden Daughtry.
Kelsey is making a strong push with multiple point guards, and Louisville got a big recruit on campus this weekend, as the No. 3 overall prospect, Cayden Daughtry, took his official visit.

Louisville hosted No. 3 Cayden Daughtry
Louisville has been targeting multiple guards, including 5-star point guard Reese Alston, but with Daughtry taking his official visit, it is clear Kelsey is eyeing the top point guard. Louisville landed inside his final 14, putting UofL in a battle with Florida State, Florida, Miami, Iowa, UConn, Arkansas, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Villanova, Providence, Kentucky, Tennessee, and USC.
Now, the Cardinals landed their first official visit from the 5-star recruit, and hopefully the push is only heating up. Daughtry said earlier he wasn’t going to visit Louisville, but Kelsey made it clear he wants the star guard by telling him, “We need you.”
“I wasn’t planning on taking a visit there, but Pat Kelsey really just came down to South Florida when I was at one of my practices and put it straightforward: “We need you. We want you.” stated Daughtry, according to Tipton. “After reconsidering and seeing the energy he had, how Coach Jermaine and everybody came down to practice, and how they were, I couldn’t leave them out. So I decided to take a visit there, and I want to see what’s up. I want to see it firsthand.”
Daughtry has quickly emerged as one of the nation's top recruits, coming off a historic Nike EYBL Peach Jam run. He averaged 32.3 points per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from beyond the arc, and also averaged 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 steals.
He then followed up that dominant run by scoring a career-high 46 points in Atlanta for the Overtime Elite opener. He is an elite scorer who would flourish in Kelsey’s system, but it won’t be an easy recruiting process. In addition to his UofL visit, he has also visited Florida State, Iowa, Tennessee, and Florida, and he's eyeing Arkansas and Miami for a visit.
Kelsey earning a visit is one step in the right direction, and now, hopefully, Louisville can emerge as a real threat to land the No. 2 point guard in the recruiting class for the second time since Kelsey arrived.
