Louisville basketball got huge news the other day that the Cardinals' two transfers are eligible…as for now.
Louisville could be one step closer to getting Seth Trimble and LJ Wells on the floor
Louisville brought in multiple transfers from the portal, including No. 1 overall transfer Flory Bidunga and two former 5-stars, Jackson Shelstad and Karter Knox. UofL is projected to be a legit Final Four contender in the 2026-27 season, and a big reason is Seth Trimble's late addition.
However, Louisville and Trimble have been fighting over his fifth year of eligibility, and on Friday, Judge Brian Edwards of the Jefferson County Circuit Court granted him that eligibility.
Louisville basketballs projected starting five
This isn’t set in stone yet. He isn’t officially eligible yet, but it feels like a step in the right direction. For now, the UNC transfer can suit up and play for Louisville basketball, which gives the Cardinals a massive boost. So, with him available (again, for now), let’s break down our projected starting five.
Louisville's starting 5
PG: Jackson Shelstad
SG Seth Trimble
SF: Karter Knox
PF: Alvaro Folgueiras
C: Flory Bidunga
This starting five is loaded with experience and has so much potential. As Louisville fans and everyone will notice, not one player in this projected starting five was on the team last year. Kelsey made massive changes this offseason, adding 11 new players, including eight from the Transfer Portal, five of whom are projected to start.
Players who aren’t starting but could see some games as a starter throughout the season include former 5-star transfer and key returner Adrian Wooley and 5-star freshman Obinna Ekezie Jr. Wooley is expected to make a major jump this year, entering year two with the Cardinals. He showed a lot of potential last year, with his ability to create space and his craftiness in creating shots for himself and others.
Ekezie, the 5-star freshman, is 7-foot-2 and has put on over 30 pounds of muscle since arriving at Louisville. The 5-star center is an elite two-way big who averaged 18 points and 1.8 blocks per game last season. While he is 7'2, the dream is for him to play power forward and Bidunga to play center, creating an elite frontcourt.
In this projected starting five, you get an elite scorer in Shelstad, multiple elite defenders in Trimble, Knox, and Bidunga, and a stretch-four in Folgueiras who can shoot the 3-ball at 6-foot-10, spacing the floor for the Cardinals.
Adding Trimble is a huge boost to this roster as he averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field this past season. Adding that veteran presence next to Shelstad creates an elite backcourt and a starting five that should be a top-ten team in the nation.
