Louisville football was having a bit of a rough summer with their 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals lost multiple recruits, including two 4-star commitments, Allen Evans and Chuck Alexander Jr. Louisville’s recruiting class dropped from top 25 to outside the top 40 because of these huge losses, as Evans was the Cardinals' top commitment in the cycle.

However, Louisville got back on the right track yesterday, landing a massive commitment from a 4-star defensive lineman. The Cardinals earned a commitment from Kadin Fife, marking Louisville’s 16th commitment in the 2027 recruiting class and their fourth 4-star commitment.

With Louisville landing this big-time recruit, the Cardinals' Executive Director of Player Personnel, Vince Marrow, went right to X (formerly Twitter) and broke the silence on the Cardinals' major addition.

Vince Marrow reacts to Louisville football's huge 4-star commitment

Marrow is known for his presence on X, where he engages with fans, analysts, and recruits once they commit. Yesterday, after Fife committed to Louisville, Marrow showed his excitement when the Cardinals landed the 4-star, but kept his message the same, saying Louisville is playing chess, not checkers.

“We playing chess not checkers.  Let’s go!” stated Marrow on social media.

Marrow has been preaching this message to Louisville fans this summer, especially after the Cards lost elite 4-star cornerback Allen Evans. The former Louisville commit is a Louisville native and was one of the highest-rated commitments in program history. However, he flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt in June, and following that crushing blow, Marrow began to tell Louisville fans he is playing chess, not checkers.

"I’m playing chess not checkers," stated Marrow on a social media post. "let’s see what happens when it gets to signing day. Stay tuned Card Nation!"

Well, now following Louisville’s couple of major losses, the Cards landed another elite commitment from the 4-star defensive lineman, and Marrow is just as excited as the Cardinals fans. Fife is an elite defensive lineman who was being recruited by some of the biggest programs in college football.

He originally was a Tennessee commit, but decommitted from the Volunteers last month. He took official visits to Georgia and Ole Miss, and earned offers from programs like Tennessee, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Texas, Kentucky, and others.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound defensive lineman is now Louisville’s fourth-highest rated commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, only putting him behind Ja’Hyde Brown, AJ Tillman, and D’Angelo White. Fife ranks as high as No. 390 overall in the 2027 cycle, No. 33 among defensive linemen, and the No. 11 out of the state of Alabama.
